Reading:
We are reviewing topics from the year. Along with review, students will participate in Book Clubs. Book Clubs are sets of 2 or more students reading and discussing the same book.
Writing: Students will finish up their research papers by the end of this week and then we will work on any other unfinished work. Students will than work on cursive writing as well as activities to strengthen their creative writing skills.
Math: We will review a couple of the topics taught this year but for the rest of the year, most of the math time will be used to work on Toy Fair.
Social Studies: Students will finish up their study of government by early next week. We will touch on the branches of government and their roles and responsibilities as well as the levels of government (local, state, and federal).

Toy Fair: This is a group based project. Students will work in a group of 4 or 5 other students. Their job will be to design and make a new toy. They will work together to plan and design their toy. They will than work as a team to make the toy with the supplies provided by parents. Each group is given $5 to use to make their toy. They will make one prototype of the toy to show the second graders. They can "spend" the $5 to buy supplies but they have to take into consideration that each toy will sell for $5 as well. So the money that they use to make the toy will come out of the profit for every toy. For example: If they build a toy that cost $3.00 to make, they will only profit $2.00 every time a second grader "buys" their toy. The groups will be making presentation to the second graders and the second graders will fake "buy" the products by handing the group who they thought they would buy a toy from a $5 bill. At the end of the project we will have a discussion about the whole process and what they might have done differently.
