New Vocabulary Activities:
For the rest of the year, students will be completing vocabulary activities at home instead of spelling words. At the end of each week, they will need to match or identify the word and definition combination. This is in preparation for the EOG's as well as 4th grade. Below is the paper that was sent home with students this week. These activities should be completed with another person in the household. When students practice their words with someone else, they have a better chance of remembering the definition. New words will be passed out every week and this should be filled out by every Friday.
Reading: This week we are still working on poetry. We will continue to work on analyzing many different kinds of poems. So far we've studied: Couplets, Diamante, Cinquian, Simile and Metaphor, Imagery, Shape, and Point of View.
Writing: Students will continue to create their own poetry this week based on the types of poetry that we've studied. Ask them about it.
Math: This week we are finishing up our fraction unit. We are focusing on partitioning shapes and combining different fractions in the same space. Ask your student about the quilt piece that they made.
Science: Plants, Plants, Plants! The Wisconsin fast plants that we planted last week are growing! Students will be observing, measuring, and comparing plants all week. We will discuss what plants need to survive and all the different parts of the plant that work together.
