Your student needs to pick out a published poem to recite for the poetry day. I must have a copy of this poem in my hands by Friday afternoon. It can be emailed to me, written out, or a photo copy. Students were also given the option to put a sticky note on a poem in a poetry book in class and I would copy it for them.
Please also send in the field trip form and money by Friday :)
Math: We started Pattern Block fractions last week and will continue to compare fractions. To practice, look at the resources that were published before break.
Reading: Read different kinds of poems at home with your student. The main types of poems that we are studying are: Limerick, Cinquain, Haiku, Listing, Concrete, and Simile and Metaphor. Talk to them about the mood and speaker of the poem as well as why the author might have written the poem. So far we've studied: Listing, Personification, Imagery, and Haiku. The students have made their own Haiku, Imagery, and Listing Poems.
Social Studies: After studying the general vocabulary of the unit last week, we are going more in-depth with the concepts. This week we will be doing a mini project where the students will need to plan a budget for the future and reflect upon their choices. We are still focusing on supply and demand as well as opportunity cost. This mini-project will focus more on wants and needs as well as opportunity costs.
