Friday (Reader's Theater)- Spelling Contract Due, Spelling Test
Next Monday - Reading Log Due
Reading: We are focusing on text structure this week. Text structure includes: Compare and Contrast, Cause and Effect, Descriptions, Problems and Solutions, and Sequencing. We are finishing up our guided reading biography books this week as well. Ask your student about who they learned about (Abraham Lincoln, Clara Barton, Jesse Owens, or Henry Ford).
Writing: The students are finishing the mini-books that they made about the independent biography they read. We will be displaying the books in the hall. After that, the students will be writing a 5 paragraph paper that will summarize the information that they learned about that person.
Math: As I mentioned to most of you in conferences, we are continuing with fractions but they will become complex very quickly here. This week we will be learning about fractions as a whole, equivalent fractions, and more than one whole represented by fractions. It is a big week for fractions. It is important that students are completing the homework on a nightly basis so that they can practice what was taught in class.
Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about Native Americans. We are focusing on the Tuscarora Tribe at the beginning of the week. As the week progresses, we will move on to the early explorers.
Spelling: Don't forget that the words are posted on a weekly basis on spellingcity. There is a link in the parent resources tab that will take you to the correct spot. Make sure that students are completing the spelling contract on a weekly basis and that they are practicing their words at least 3 times a week.
