The Food Drive (Canned and Non-Perishable Food) was extended to December 21st. Please send in any donations for Nourishing Noggins.
Reading: We will continue to focus on text features and non-fiction texts mixed in with main idea for the rest of the quarter. To connect this at home, when students read non-fiction ask them and challenge them to think of what text features could be added to the text. For example, would adding a map help a reading? Why or Why not?
Writing: We are now transitioning to opinion writing. We will focus on linking our opinions with reasons to support those opinions. This week we will work on several small opinion pieces. This unit also mixes in persuasive writing.
Math: We started Area and Perimeter today!! This is a difficult and exciting unit. Students are now expected to have their multiplication facts memorized and will need to recall them quicker. We will start off with area and then move to perimeter. There are resources available on the parent resources tab. There are also games for students to play to practice finding area and perimeter. Be aware that students only need to be able to find the area or squares, rectangles, and shapes that combine squares and rectangles in third grade. They will not be asked to find the area of triangles or circles.
Science: It was previously stated that we would be studying objects in the sky for this unit. There was some confusion with the schedule for the year. We are currently going to do the changes in matter unit. This will focus on the states of matter and how they change with heating and cooling of the substance. This unit is one with lots of experiments! So get ready to hear all about the fun things we get to do in science!!
